Sony Xperia Tablet images and specs emerge

Sony had been a late entrant in the tablet segment when they announced the Tablet S and Tablet P last year. The company did not make a significant impact with their tablets, but kudos to the brand for launching devices that did not feature the traditional slate-style that can be seen on practically all tablets available in the market. However, it appears Sony is planning to refresh its tablet portfolio with a new launch, the Sony Xperia Tablet, according to a report by The Verge , who have obtained information from a German news site, Mobiflip . The Sony Tablet S featured a unique wedge design that made it look like a folded magazine. Building on this design concept, the Sony XperiaTablet follows suit and features this folded magazine design. According to the reports, the Sony Xperia Tablet will feature a Tegra 3 processor, come with storage capacities of 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB, andwill run on Android 4.0 IceCream Sandwich or later. Apart from this, the device will feature 3G connectivity and feature a 6000 mAh battery, which Sony states will be capable of lasting 10 hours while browsing theInternet using Wi-Fi. Thistablet will measure 8.8 mm at its thinnest and Sony claims that the slim,splash-proof body allowsthe tablet to look and work great. The Verge goes on to state, “Also of interest isa keyboard cover which will undoubtedly remind many of the keyboard revealed with Microsoft'sSurface tablet. Sony's vision for the accessory is a little different, however — it seems to wrap around the entire tablet, and folds at the back to negate the need for a kickstand. It's something between Microsoft's implementation and Apple's Smart Cover iPadaccessory.” The keyboard cover is expected to be sold at a retail price of $99, but, this is not finalized. Although nothing is set instone, the 16 GB model ispriced at $449.99, the 32GB variant costs $ 549.99 and the 64 GB version is expected to be sold for $ 649.99. Apart from the features and the pricing, there are also prices for various accessories thatgo with the tablet. There is a cover without a keyboard that will be available for $59.99; a premium cover that will come in multiple colours, costing $79.99; a stand for docking the tablet willbe selling for $99.99; a simple stand will cost$24.99, and a dock speaker that will be sold for $119.99. The only thing left to be revealed is when this tablet will be released. But given the fact that Sony launched their tablet last year in the third quarter, we can expect them to release itat around the same time. One thing is for certain, though - more details willbe known closer to the date of launch. Let us know your thoughts on the upcoming tablet from Sony in the comments below.
